Louie Hernandez

  • E License (2006)
  • Experience: I started playing in the Rowland Heights AYSO league at age six and was an AYSO all star by age ten.  At age twelve I began playing club soccer for the Rowland Kickers.  I also played in the Inland Empire League where I was a goalkeeper. My best year came when I was 15 years old and didn't allow a goal all season - and our team won the championship.

My high school career at Nogales high was very successful as I made the varsity team as a sophomore. My best year in high school was my senior year, when I was voted league MVP, first team all league, and we won the Sierra League championship. Nogales also gave me their Hall of Fame Award where my name sits on a plague in the school's gymnasium.

In 1989 I went to play for TEAMS USA. I played in countries like Holland, Sweden, Denmark, and Russia. In Minsk, Russia, while staying at their Olympic Training Center, I was part of the USA team that defeated Russia on their home field, shutting them out.

My college career at Cal State LA, I was their starting goalkeeper and recorded seven consecutive shutouts at one point - a school record that still stands today.

In the summer of 1990 I went to Guadalajara, Mexico vying for a professional contract with the Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara.  When that didn't work out, I began playing for Academicos Del Atlas.

After spending a year in Mexico I decided to return to the USA to close out my career. Now I spend most of my time coaching my son and his teammates. Life is great!
