Fury Starts off Spring League on the Right Foot The Corinthians Fury, a U-9 girls team playing Club soccer for the first time, played their first games of Spring League this past weekend - and with great success! Game 1 was played against a team from Palm Springs called the Magic. Being their first game together, they sure didn't look or act like a new club team. The Fury battled hard from the opening minute to the final whistle and won the game 2-0. On defense Kanitha, Julia, Libby and Taylor played like club players all game long and didn't allow a single goal. Julia consistently cleared every ball she handled up to the midfield area, and sometimes even further than that. Libby and Kanitha consistently attacked the opposition, making great outlet passes to the forward line. Our forwards and midfielders Madison, Amber, Breanna and Julia G (a.k.a. Juice) played exceptionally well. Juice had great foot work throughout the game, making some great passes to her teammates. Amber scored both goals, the first one on an assist from Breanna, but she didn't need any help on the second one with a hard shot from outside the 18 landing just inside the far corner. Game 2 came a few hours later in Corona against the Corona Eagles. The girls were tired because of the energy they used in the first game, but they played competitively anyway and were only down 3-0 at half time. During the half time break, the coaching staff came up with a different strategy for the girls to try and these adjustments paid off big time. The girls somehow found a second wind and went out and scored two goals in the second half. The first off a throw in by Amber inside the penalty area that Breanna finished with a one touch volley. The second on a great passing effort with Madison giving to Amber who gave it up to Breanna who had another great finish for her second goal. On defense, Julia, Kanitha, Olivia, and Juice kept a lot of pressure on the opposing team as the Fury basically dominated the second half. Fury may have lost the second game 4-2, but they found out they are a pretty good club team already. Parents and coaches alike are very proud of these girls, and they have the feeling this team is going to be very successful in the fall. Good Job Girls, and Congratulation on your First Win!!!!! |
